The Woodruff School offers a rigorous graduate program designed for students with engineering, mechanics, mathematics, or science backgrounds, culminating in a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. While most coursework is flexible, all study plans must fulfill the School's standards for breadth, depth, and academic rigor.
The CAE-Design Research Group aims to create computer-driven, systems-based approaches and foundational frameworks that enhance the design and development of engineering products for worldwide markets. Our work spans Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Engineering (CAE), Manufacturing (CAM), Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Distributed Design and Manufacturing, Information Engineering, and the scientific study of design principles.
Our applied research develops tools and methodologies for engineering analysis, design, production, operations, maintenance, product recycling, and sustainability. Funding sources have included NSF, NIST/ATP, DARPA, USAFRL, NASA, SRC, and various automotive, aerospace, electronics, and industrial partners.
