The Georgia Tech Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (AMO) research team is a vibrant, multifaceted group that has achieved groundbreaking work in quantum degenerate gases, ultracold atomic physics, quantum information science, quantum optics, ultrafast laser metrology, and ultrafast atomic phenomena. Over recent decades, revolutionary progress in laser technology combined with breakthroughs in laser cooling and trapping methods for atoms and molecules has created exciting new domains in AMO research. These scientific milestones have earned four Nobel Prizes: for laser cooling/trapping (1997), Bose-Einstein condensation (2001), optical frequency standards (2005), and quantum manipulation of ions with cavity quantum electrodynamics (2012).
