As our comprehension of the brain-mind connection rapidly advances, neuroscience has emerged as one of science's most exciting frontiers. The Neurobiology specialization, within this broader field, zeroes in on the molecular, cellular, and circuit-level mechanisms driving brain activity. The Neurobiology curriculum equips students with fundamental biological and neurobiological knowledge while offering specialized study across diverse areas - spanning cellular, molecular, and developmental neuroscience to cognitive science, psychology, and their interdisciplinary connections.
Prospective Neurobiology majors typically begin as Biology students, formally declaring their specialization during sophomore fall. The spring semester of sophomore year features Neurobiology (BIOL-1950), a writing-intensive course fulfilling university communication requirements. Upperclass years involve four core courses plus electives for specialized neurobiology study. The Biology Department additionally provides 1-credit electives counting toward Biology requirements.
