The Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies (CERES) at Georgetown University provides one of America's premier Master's programs focused on Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies, alongside an extensive calendar of public events and academic conferences. Established in 1959 to cultivate experts capable of interpreting the Soviet Union's opaque political system, CERES has adapted to post-Soviet realities while maintaining its interdisciplinary approach to this culturally diverse area.
The MA in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies (MAERES) equips students with comprehensive regional language skills and multidisciplinary social science training. Program participants will develop: broad disciplinary understanding of the region through diverse analytical approaches, the capacity to combine theoretical frameworks with practical regional knowledge, specialized thematic concentrations for advanced expertise, fluency in at least one regional language, original research using their language specialization, and strong public speaking and analytical writing abilities.
