The Physics Department provides two distinct programs: a standard Physics major and a Biological Physics major. Both programs offer the option to earn either a B.S. or A.B. degree. The B.S. in Physics caters to students with diverse career aspirations, particularly those aiming for graduate studies or professional roles in physics, science, or technology. The B.S. in Biological Physics prepares students for advanced studies or careers in biophysics, biomedical sciences, or bioengineering. The A.B. programs in Physics and Biological Physics are tailored for students pursuing graduate work or careers in non-scientific fields such as medicine, law, business, journalism, government, or education. These A.B. programs also offer more flexibility for students wishing to pursue a dual major. Additionally, students can opt for a Physics minor.
The B.S. Physics major mandates at least seven upper-level courses beyond the foundational sequence, whereas the A.B. Physics major requires five. For the B.S. Biological Physics major, students must complete five advanced Physics courses and four supplementary science courses after the core sequence, while the A.B. Biological Physics major calls for three advanced Physics courses and four corollary science courses in addition to the introductory curriculum.
