The Italian major employs a comprehensive methodology to equip students with the ability to examine interrelationships and grasp the historical continuum. Starting from the introductory Gateway course through the culminating Senior Seminar, each class is structured to immerse students in the diverse facets of Italian culture. Learners hone their critical thinking and analytical abilities through intimate classroom discussions, while the program's mandatory study abroad component offers fresh viewpoints on global challenges.
Georgetown's Italian major necessitates completion of 10 to 12 courses, determined by placement exam results (12 for Intensive Basic starters, 11 for Intensive Intermediate, and 10 for Intensive Advanced). One major-related course may be conducted in English. Additionally, Italian majors must complete either a semester or full academic year of study at an Italian university.
