Launched in 2013, the GW School of Business MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) program equips students with practical analytics and consulting expertise for data-informed decision making. From the beginning, the program has partnered with top analytics firms like IBM and Deloitte to create and continually refine a comprehensive curriculum covering technical, quantitative, and qualitative competencies needed to develop, implement, and present business analytics solutions effectively.
The coursework uniquely combines analytical techniques (descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive), specialized applications (electives focusing on industry-specific analytics), professional skills (consulting, teamwork, and communication), and technical tools (SAS, R, Python, SQL, no-SQL, and emerging technologies). Students complete their studies with a hands-on practicum, working in teams to tackle actual business problems presented by corporate partners.
Through its Advisory Group featuring industry leaders like IBM, Deloitte, SAS, Accenture, MITRE, and Attain, the program maintains strong industry ties that shape curriculum development, support student practicums, and offer career advancement and professional networking prospects.
