Founded during the early years of contemporary environmental legislation, George Washington University Law School's Environmental and Energy Law Program has led academic excellence in this discipline for more than half a century. In recent years, the curriculum has grown to emphasize energy law more prominently, introducing additional courses and establishing the Sustainable Energy Initiative. Currently, the program is undergoing substantial growth to equip future environmental and energy attorneys with essential skills to address global, national, and regional issues affecting ecosystems and communities - from climate crises and declining fish stocks to atmospheric contamination, water shortages, and innovative energy solutions.
Situated in Washington, D.C.'s political epicenter, GW Law offers unparalleled access to where environmental and energy policies are shaped and contested. This prime location enables students to study under world-renowned legal scholars while gaining practical experience through internships with leading governmental agencies and global environmental nonprofits that drive policy change.
