Individuals who complete the PhD in translational health sciences develop skills to create, apply, and share research that enhances health outcomes and care delivery. These professionals bridge institutional divides, collaborating with diverse groups such as researchers, government officials, and patients to discover, develop, and evaluate improvements in clinical practice and medical training. The curriculum cultivates transformative leaders specializing in three domains: medical education, clinical care, and applied research. Designed mainly for certified healthcare providers, instructors, hospital executives, and public health specialists, the program equips professionals to drive meaningful advancements in population health.
To earn the degree, candidates must complete 54 credit hours post-master's, pass two comprehensive assessments, successfully defend their research proposal, and present their final dissertation. The hybrid program combines online coursework with in-person sessions (two weekends each term) at GW's Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, VA.
