The mathematics PhD program boasts faculty with diverse expertise spanning multiple research areas such as analysis, differential equations (both ordinary and partial), dynamical systems, applied mathematics (incorporating numerical analysis), combinatorics, mathematical logic, topology, and knot theory. The department fosters a vibrant academic environment with approximately 30 graduate students and 20 faculty members, ensuring rich collaboration and personalized guidance.
Each graduate student is assigned a dedicated faculty advisor upon admission, supplemented by peer mentoring. Students further explore research opportunities through departmental seminars and colloquium series. Full-time students may secure teaching assistantships, which involve manageable teaching responsibilities - typically conducting recitations for one undergraduate introductory course each semester.
For professionals aiming to enhance their mathematical proficiency, the program offers a graduate certificate option. This credential helps strengthen advanced undergraduate and early graduate-level mathematical skills, improving career prospects or preparing for further study in quantitative fields.
