Students enrolled in any Elliott School major must fulfill the General Bachelor's Program Requirements. Those pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs (BAIA) must additionally complete all three BAIA major requirements listed below, along with demonstrating third-year competency in a modern foreign language through either testing or coursework.
All courses counting toward the international affairs major require a minimum grade of C-. No course may satisfy multiple international affairs requirements simultaneously (with the exception of WID-designated courses).
This specialization offers a comparative and global examination of European nations and Western Asian countries formerly part of the Soviet Union. The curriculum explores contemporary European and Eurasian cultures, historical developments, regional economics, comparative political systems, and area-specific politics. Students also examine security challenges, development issues, trade dynamics, economic and political integration processes, trans-European institutions, and European nations' foreign policies.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this concentration, graduates should possess the ability to critically examine and interpret domestic, regional, and global developments affecting this geographical area. They should also develop the capacity to design policy solutions for regional challenges and evaluate the efficacy of implemented strategies.
