George Mason University's School Psychology Program involves three years of full-time coursework, including a 1,200-hour internship during the final year. Typically following a cohort structure, students admitted together progress through identical classes and field experiences simultaneously. Coursework focuses on evidence-based practices in assessment, counseling, consultation, prevention, and intervention, along with research methodology and statistics training. Through five practicum placements and the internship, students bridge theoretical knowledge with professional practice.
Students earn their MA after the second year and must complete a 22-credit graduate certificate program to qualify for Virginia school psychology licensure. MA graduates gain automatic admission to this certification program.
