The music education program at George Mason University holds approval from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) as an accredited teacher training curriculum leading to certification. While undergraduates can select music education as their declared major, this doesn't formally confirm their degree standing. To gain admission into the program, applicants must submit required materials, fulfill all prerequisite conditions, and successfully complete both the MTEC Interview and Skill Assessment Test.
Participants are required to finish all program-specific coursework along with the necessary curriculum for one of these specializations-
Brass instruments
Guitar studies
Keyboard/piano
Percussion studies
String instruments
Vocal performance
Woodwind instruments
