Engineers utilize scientific and mathematical theories to solve real-world technical challenges. The engineering major establishes a strong foundation in what is commonly known as the "engineering core" at educational institutions. This core primarily consists of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and introductory engineering courses like circuit analysis and statics. Typically, the major aims to cover all fundamental subjects needed for a seamless transition to the student's selected college or university.
Students will develop the ability to create logical problem-solving strategies, devise solutions, and evaluate their feasibility for engineering analysis tasks.
Students will learn to design, build, and innovate solutions to engineering issues by employing the engineering design process and determining key design factors from the basic physics of a system.
Students will gain a solid understanding of essential knowledge required for engineering practice or further education, including scientific principles, thorough analysis, and problem-solving techniques.
Students will exhibit effective communication abilities, collaborative teamwork, and professional ethics and attitudes.
Students will be prepared for the intricate work setting and ongoing education.
Engineering—especially electrical and computer engineering—remains a top career option. It ranks as the second largest profession, surpassed only by teaching. Starting salaries begin around $50,000 and can reach up to $170,000 for specific specializations.
