The Biological Sciences major is designed for students aiming to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year university. This program equips students for various career paths including healthcare, education, forestry, agriculture, environmental conservation, wildlife biology, biotechnology, scientific research, and more. Prospective biology majors should explore the Biology department's website for additional resources.
For those passionate about biology but not planning to transfer for a bachelor's degree, the Biological and Health Sciences Division offers alternative programs such as dental assisting, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical sonography, environmental horticulture, paramedic training, pharmacy technician studies, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, and veterinary technology/assistant programs.
Individuals holding a bachelor's degree can fulfill medical school biology prerequisites by completing BIOL 1A, BIOL 1B, and BIOL 1C.
Additionally, the department provides a Certificate of Achievement in Bio-Health Diversity and Inclusion Leadership. Healthcare institutions, medical schools, and research organizations increasingly value professionals who understand diversity's role in their field. This certificate helps biology and health science students stand out by demonstrating expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, and community service within their disciplines. To earn this credential, students complete their core biology coursework along with at least one service-learning course focused on biological/healthcare fields.
