The Art History program awards an Associate in Arts degree and a Certificate of Achievement, equipping students with knowledge of art alongside its economic, political, religious, and social contexts. Graduates gain greater appreciation for artistic matters and develop critical thinking skills regarding art and its historical significance. Studying art history deepens one's grasp of historical events, introduces key aspects of human cultural evolution, and explores diverse artistic traditions across civilizations. This structured curriculum helps students build specialized art theories needed for university-level art programs. Participants will learn to gather and evaluate primary and secondary sources, then effectively analyze and discuss them through well-reasoned research papers.
Students will develop the ability to articulate in writing how political, social, religious, and technological forces shape and transform cultures.
Potential career paths include: educator (college professor or teacher), arts administrator, museum/gallery curator, corporate art consultant, museum docent, historical style advisor for film/TV, museum conservator, historical preservation specialist, art critic, tour director, travel advisor, research associate, and art dealer.
