The College of Arts and Sciences provides a master's degree program tailored for students pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers with a focus on teaching through the Masters in STEM Teaching (MST) program under the Office of STEM Teaching Activities (OSTA). Ideal MST candidates aspire to teach as faculty members, whether as tenure-track professors, lecturers at four-year institutions, instructors at community colleges, or K-12 educators. By combining rigorous coursework with hands-on teaching internships, the program equips STEM undergraduates and graduates with the expertise needed to excel as educators at secondary or post-secondary levels.
The MST program is a non-thesis master's degree that enhances students' scientific knowledge through advanced coursework in their chosen STEM disciplines (such as biology, chemistry, engineering, geoscience, mathematics, or physics) while offering comprehensive training in STEM pedagogy. This includes immersive teaching internships. Leveraging a collaboration between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education, the program delivers top-tier learning experiences in both STEM content and teaching methodologies. Partnerships with Tallahassee Community College, FSU STEM Departments, and local secondary schools ensure diverse internship opportunities for all participants.
