The environmental planning specialization focuses on conserving and managing air, water, land, and other natural resources. It addresses both direct resource management and minimizing negative effects from human development and activities. This specialization covers major environmental challenges while equipping planners with the theoretical, methodological, and legal foundations to effectively address these concerns.
The Master's of Science in Planning (MSP) serves as the primary professional qualification for most U.S. planners. Our alumni work across more than 40 states and approximately 30 nations, with Florida hosting the highest concentration of graduates. Discover more about our program's student success metrics here. The MSP program's core objective is preparing students for planning careers, enabling them to serve in both general and specialized capacities. Typically earned through two years of full-time study, the degree requires completing 48 semester hours of coursework plus 400 internship hours. We also welcome part-time students. The curriculum includes these key components: The culminating research project, paper, or thesis allows students to deeply explore and synthesize a specific topic before entering professional practice. All candidates must successfully complete and defend either a group studio project, research paper, thesis, or student-led professional initiative.
