Industrial Engineering is a versatile field that integrates education and research focused on developing, enhancing, and implementing complex systems involving people, materials, data, machinery, and energy. Graduate studies and research are organized into three primary areas: manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and industrial systems. Active research topics cover manufacturing techniques and systems, statistical quality assurance, failure and lifecycle assessment, production system optimization, reliability engineering, machine learning applications, sensor networks, process monitoring, set-covering theory, simulation tools, polymer and nanomaterial development, thin-film and printed electronics manufacturing, carbon nanotube applications, composite materials, and material processing simulations.

The department provides multiple Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE) program tracks tailored to student interests. Options include a thesis-based traditional MS or a non-thesis MS with an engineering management focus. An accelerated BS-MS combined program is available for students seeking faster graduate completion. The department also features a course-only MS in Systems Engineering (MSSE) designed for both traditional students and working professionals. Detailed program information and requirements are outlined in the Industrial Engineering Graduate Handbook, available through the department.
