The Aquatic Environmental Science program equips students with comprehensive knowledge about how aquatic systems (both marine and freshwater) interact through physical, biological, chemical, and geological processes, and how these relationships influence and are influenced by human actions. This master's program welcomes applicants holding undergraduate degrees in natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering.
The consolidation of Geological Sciences, Oceanography, and Meteorology departments established the Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science (EOAS). While maintaining their distinct academic specialties, faculty from these disciplines now collaborate more closely, fostering innovative interdisciplinary approaches. This integration opens novel pathways for geoscience education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Students gain a unified perspective on Earth's physical systems, preparing them for careers across government agencies, private industries, and academic institutions. With growing attention to climate change, sustainable environments, natural resource management, and ecological preservation, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates a 14% rise in geoscience jobs from 2016 to 2026 - nearly double the average growth rate for all U.S. professions. EOAS provides advanced degree programs in aquatic science, geology, oceanography, and meteorology.
