At the master's level, students have the option to pursue either a thesis-based or course-based program. The MA in Spanish offers three specialization tracks: Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Linguistics, or a combined Linguistics & Literature focus. Graduate students must acquire and apply fundamental knowledge relevant to their discipline. They should also develop proficiency in research methodologies and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills applicable to literary, cultural, or linguistic studies.
For doctoral candidates, the program typically mandates at least 30 credit hours beyond the master's degree. PhD students can specialize in either Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures or Hispanic Linguistics.
