The Department of Psychology provides a 5-7 year APA-accredited PhD program in Clinical Psychology, following a clinical science approach.
Our program combines scientific research with practical clinical training, equipping graduates to apply current psychological knowledge while maintaining leadership in advancing the field. Students develop lasting skills to formulate and rigorously test hypotheses throughout their professional careers.
Our three core training goals focus on: 1) establishing fundamental expertise in psychological science and practice, 2) developing researchers who expand scientific knowledge, and 3) cultivating clinicians who approach psychopathology and treatment through investigative methods. The first goal is achieved through required coursework, including instruction from non-clinical faculty. We pride ourselves on exposing clinical students to distinguished faculty across Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Social Psychology. This interdisciplinary focus is strengthened by extensive faculty collaboration, reflected in both research and teaching. The department promotes this integration through cross-area graduate seminars where faculty from different specialties jointly teach courses on interdisciplinary topics, demonstrating how clinical psychology connects with broader psychological science.
