The Accounting major is one of seven doctoral concentrations available in FSU's College of Business Ph.D. in Business Administration program. Each fall, the program accepts two to three students, with completion typically requiring four to five years. The curriculum focuses on capital markets, decision processes, financial reporting, and assurance services, offering two specialized tracks: empirical financial accounting research (often incorporating finance and econometrics) and behavioral accounting research (typically involving economics and psychology coursework). Students benefit from close faculty guidance, core seminars, a second-year research project, comprehensive examinations, and dissertation work. The program emphasizes empirical-archival approaches to studying capital markets, financial reporting, and auditing. Through intensive coursework and seminars, students develop into independent researchers. Recent research areas have examined earnings management, executive pay structures, management forecasting, revenue recognition practices, corporate disclosure analysis, accruals patterns, and audit disclosure matters.
