The Art Education PhD program cultivates visionary leaders in teaching, research, and arts administration, empowering students to substantially expand the knowledge base surrounding art instruction, learning methodologies, and program management. Graduates frequently join university faculties worldwide or oversee arts initiatives across educational and cultural organizations. Typically, advanced art education studies prepare professionals for two primary career paths: the practitioner track focusing on classroom instruction, program oversight, or administrative leadership; and the theoretical track involving scholarly research to advance art education's philosophical, historical, or scientific foundations.
Admission requirements include achieving a 3.5 GPA on 4.0 scale on a master's degree from an accredited institution and a percentile ranking of 55% on the Verbal and 25% on the Quantitative portions of the GRE. The baccalaureate degree must be from a nationally accredited college or university in art, art education or related fields. Deficiencies may be made up. The applicant must be in good standing in the institution of higher education last attended.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language [TOEFL] is required of all international students with a minimum score of 80.
