The String Area offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and guitar. Our renowned faculty of artist-educators focuses on the comprehensive growth of every student across all majors, fostering excellence within a challenging yet supportive atmosphere. The College of Music maintains that exceptional performance standards should underpin all music degree programs. Alumni from our string program have secured positions with professional orchestras, academic institutions across the U.S. and internationally, excelled as music educators, and earned prestigious awards in national and global competitions. Students benefit from working alongside exceptional string musicians from around the globe. Those pursuing non-performance degrees share classes with performance majors and engage fully in performance activities, including ensemble work, orchestral and operatic productions, and student-led recitals. Our extensive chamber music curriculum receives guidance from the entire string faculty. The program presents nearly 600 annual performances featuring students, faculty, and visiting artists. With its balanced academic offerings, distinguished instructors, abundant performance possibilities, and talented peers, FSU's string program ranks among the nation's premier music education experiences.
