Recognized nationwide as one of the most extensive music schools in public universities, Florida State University's College of Music has provided top-tier professional music education for over eight decades. Aspiring professional musicians can develop their creativity and personal skills through programs tailored to cultivate composers, performers, scholars, and educators. The College serves as home to diverse musical groups including campus orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, 9 world music ensembles, chamber groups, the Florida State Opera, and the Music Theater Program. Annually, the College presents around 350 performances and events while frequently hosting national conferences, workshops, and festivals like the biennial Festival of New Music.
The Organ program assists students preparing for careers in sacred music and concert performance. Our program benefits from multiple teaching and practice organs located both on campus and in neighboring churches. Primary instruction occurs on the Holtkamp (3-manual) organ in Opperman Music Hall, supplemented by instruments like the Casavant (3-manual) at Trinity United Methodist, the Taylor and Boody (2-manual) at First Presbyterian, and the Fisk (2-manual) at St. John's Episcopal Church. Additionally, three practice organs are available on campus along with continuo organs and a regal.

Qualification Requirements

A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution.
Applicants must have earned a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree. Applicants not meeting this requirement may be considered for admission, but only by special exception. To determine your upper-division GPA, please consult the GPA calculation worksheet. If your upper-division GPA is below a 3.0,please be sure to address this deficiency in your Statement of Purpose. You are also encouraged to have your referees address your academic preparedness for graduate study in their letters of recommendation.
