Recognized nationwide as one of the most extensive music schools in public universities, Florida State University's College of Music has provided top-tier professional music education for over eight decades. Aspiring professional musicians can develop their creativity and personal skills through programs tailored to cultivate composers, performers, scholars, and educators. The College serves as home to diverse musical groups including campus orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, 9 world music ensembles, chamber groups, the Florida State Opera, and the Music Theater Program. Annually, the College presents around 350 performances and events while frequently hosting national conferences, workshops, and festivals like the biennial Festival of New Music.
The Organ program assists students preparing for careers in sacred music and concert performance. Our program benefits from multiple teaching and practice organs located both on campus and in neighboring churches. Primary instruction occurs on the Holtkamp (3-manual) organ in Opperman Music Hall, supplemented by instruments like the Casavant (3-manual) at Trinity United Methodist, the Taylor and Boody (2-manual) at First Presbyterian, and the Fisk (2-manual) at St. John's Episcopal Church. Additionally, three practice organs are available on campus along with continuo organs and a regal.
