The String Area offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and guitar. Our renowned faculty of artist-educators focuses on the comprehensive growth of every student within a challenging yet supportive atmosphere. The College of Music maintains that exceptional performance standards should underpin all music degree programs. Alumni from our string program have secured positions with professional orchestras, academic institutions across the U.S. and internationally, excelled as music educators, and earned prestigious awards in competitions worldwide. Students benefit from working alongside exceptional international peers, fostering both friendship and artistic partnership. Even those pursuing non-performance degrees share classes with performance majors and engage fully in all musical activities, from chamber groups to orchestral productions and student-led recitals. Our extensive chamber music curriculum receives guidance from the entire string faculty. The program presents nearly 600 annual performances featuring students, faculty, and visiting artists. With its balanced coursework, exceptional instructors, abundant performance possibilities, and talented student body, FSU's string program ranks among the nation's premier music education experiences.
