Our nationally recognized Political Science Department serves over 1,300 undergraduate students, providing coursework in American Government, Global Affairs, Comparative Governments, and Policy Studies. Students may also count relevant courses from the Askew School of Public Administration and political philosophy classes from the Philosophy Department toward their degree requirements. The political science major delivers a comprehensive liberal arts education that develops critical thinking, analytical abilities, and communication skills while fostering intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and civic engagement. This foundation equips graduates for diverse career paths and advanced studies in political science, legal professions, or related social science fields.
For students seeking specialized training, we provide the Research Intensive Bachelor's Certificate (RIBC) program focused on political research methods. This initiative prepares undergraduates for advanced research projects through the University Honors program and Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) initiatives.
