This undergraduate program is designed for students with strong mathematical skills who also have an interest in Biology. The curriculum prepares students for advanced studies in computational biology or bioinformatics. This major can incorporate standard pre-med coursework and is one of the interdisciplinary options available through the Mathematics department, which also features closely connected Master's and PhD programs in Biomathematics.
The Mathematics Department provides degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). (For specific information about graduate programs, refer to the Graduate Bulletin.) High-achieving undergraduates, particularly those entering with advanced standing, may pursue an accelerated bachelor's/master's pathway, enabling them to complete both degrees in approximately five years. A mathematics degree serves as either a cornerstone of liberal arts education or as foundational training for professional or graduate studies. Graduates can pursue careers in industry, finance, government, or education at various levels. The Actuarial Science program specifically prepares students for careers in insurance and financial services.
