African American Studies is a cross-disciplinary program featuring three primary academic paths and a minor option.
Housed in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, the program draws instructors from various departments across and outside the College. African American Studies enables students to examine American society and global contexts through the distinctive lens of the African Diaspora, particularly focusing on African American experiences.
Our program delivers a cross-departmental and multidisciplinary examination of ethnicity, identity, social interactions, and cultural evolution. The coursework presents a robust intellectual framework for analyzing personal accomplishments, cultural patterns, institutional practices, worldwide developments, and public dialogue. Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes matters concerning education and social policy.
