The College of Music serves as the central hub for numerous campus musical groups, including orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, nine world music ensembles, multiple chamber groups, the Florida State Opera, and the Music Theater Program. Annually, the college presents around 350 performances and events while frequently organizing national conferences, workshops, and festivals like the biennial Festival of New Music. Our distinguished history gives us valuable insight into artistic excellence and motivates us to pursue ongoing improvement. However, our true measure of success lies in how we serve you—the aspiring musicians who will fill our practice rooms, lecture halls, and studios. We welcome students at every level who are committed to reaching their highest potential in professional training. We look for individuals who will enrich Florida State's vibrant musical community and who will embrace our college's welcoming atmosphere. Florida State University has maintained accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Music since 1930.
Within the Piano program, we aim to guide students in discovering and realizing their musical potential at the keyboard. Our mentorship approach centers on weekly private instruction, supplemented by studio classes, monthly piano recitals, duo piano sessions, chamber music coaching, vocal and instrumental accompaniment training, piano literature and pedagogy courses, and masterclasses with guest artists. The program also features two annual concerto performances. With over 240 pianos available, our collection includes exceptional performance instruments such as Fazioli and Blüthner models alongside Steinways from both New York and Hamburg, housed across our five concert venues.
