The College of Music serves as the central hub for numerous campus musical groups, including orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, nine global music ensembles, and various chamber groups, alongside the Florida State Opera and Music Theater Program. Annually, the college presents approximately 350 performances and events while frequently organizing national conferences, workshops, and festivals like the biennial Festival of New Music. Our distinguished history gives us valuable insight into excellence and motivates us to pursue ongoing improvement. However, our true measure of success lies in how we serve you—the aspiring musicians who will fill our practice rooms, lecture halls, and studios. We welcome students at every level who are committed to reaching their full potential in professional training. We look for individuals who will enhance Florida State's vibrant musical community and value our college's welcoming atmosphere. Since 1930, Florida State University has held accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music. The FSU College of Music's Music Theatre Program trains performers to master singing, acting, and dancing—preparing them for professional careers upon graduation. While students receive specialized training in each discipline, the program's strength lies in its integrated approach, fostering connections between these performance arts. Beyond mainstage productions, music theatre students are urged to perform across various platforms. The college provides diverse performance opportunities, from FSU Opera to choral and instrumental ensembles. Students have also participated in FSU Dance productions and acted in plays by renowned playwrights like Shakespeare and Chekhov. Each year, graduating seniors showcase their talents in New York City before agents, casting directors, industry professionals, alumni, and supporters.
