Our performance graduates have landed roles in diverse professional music careers, from chamber groups and orchestras to military bands.
As one of the nation's top three largest music colleges, our comprehensive program provides endless opportunities and networking as you carve your musical journey. Brass performance degrees at both undergraduate and graduate levels deliver elite applied training, extensive ensemble experience, plus specialized coursework in repertoire, teaching methods, and foundational studies in piano, theory, and history. Our alumni now teach at prestigious institutions nationwide.
The College serves as home base for multiple campus orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles, early music groups, nine global music ensembles, various chamber groups, plus Florida State Opera and Music Theater. Annually, we present over 350 performances and host major events like the biennial Festival of New Music. Our distinguished history informs our commitment to excellence while challenging us to support tomorrow's musicians - the students who will fill our practice rooms and classrooms. We welcome dedicated learners at every level who strive for professional mastery. We value students who will enrich FSU's vibrant musical community. And we cherish those who embrace our college's welcoming spirit. Florida State has maintained NASM accreditation since 1930.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant who desires admission as a first year in college student must be graduated from a regionally accredited high school (or comparable international institution). All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required. We require freshman applicants to submit at least one ACT and/or SAT test score to be considered for admission. Florida State does not require the optional ACT writing score or the optional SAT essay. We encourage applicants to take both the ACT and SAT, and to attempt each exam more than one time to earn the highest possible score.
