Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to investigate the growing fields of sculpture, spanning from classical techniques to modern methods that engage with form, space, time, as well as emerging media and advancing 3D digital fabrication technologies. The program provides a blend of conceptual, material, spatial, and process-oriented courses designed to enhance both technical abilities and critical thinking.
The sculpture workshops in the Fine Arts Building (FAB) include a woodworking area, metalworking space, plaster studio, and a dedicated room for alternative media and installations, complete with a video projector.
The wood shop features a SawStop table saw, compound miter saw, multiple band saws, a 12-inch jointer-planer combo, drill presses, belt sander, oscillating spindle sander, dual disc sanders, edge sander, wood and metal grinders, router table, planer, sandblaster, panel saw, and a forklift. The metal fabrication zone is outfitted with two MIG welders, a plasma cutter, chop saw, cold saw, metal grinders, stick welder, and oxy-acetylene stations. Metal forming tools include a
50-inch slip roll, tube bender, two press brakes, and a foot shear.
Graduate students have access to specialized facilities at the Carnaghi Arts Building (CAB), which offers four distinct areas for sculpture creation: a wood shop, metal shop, ceramics lab, and an open area for installations and experimental media projects.
