The Mathematics Department provides undergraduate and graduate programs culminating in Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. (For graduate program specifics, consult the Graduate Bulletin.) High-achieving undergraduates, particularly those with advanced credits, may pursue an accelerated combined degree pathway to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees within approximately five years. A mathematics degree serves either as the cornerstone of a liberal arts education or as a stepping stone to advanced studies in mathematics or other professional fields. Graduates find career opportunities in corporate finance, government agencies, or educational settings ranging from secondary schools to universities. The Actuarial Science program specifically prepares students for careers in insurance and finance.
Mathematics forms the essential framework for scientific, social scientific, and technological disciplines. Mathematics graduates pursue diverse career paths in business, government, or academia. Alternatively, the degree can serve as the intellectual core of a broad liberal arts education, either as an end in itself or as preparation for professional programs. The Biomathematics track specifically prepares students for medical school admission.
