African American Studies is a cross-disciplinary program featuring three major concentrations and a minor option. Housed in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, the program draws faculty expertise from multiple departments across the university. This program enables students to examine American society and global contexts through the distinctive lens of the African Diaspora, particularly focusing on African American experiences. Our curriculum presents a multidisciplinary exploration of ethnic identity, human interactions, and cultural evolution. Students engage with rigorous examinations of personal accomplishments, cultural patterns, institutional systems, worldwide developments, and public dialogue. The program additionally emphasizes critical analysis of educational and societal policy matters.
