The Departments of Criminology & Criminal Justice and Public Policy & Administration offer a combined degree program leading to both a Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA). This dual-degree track equips graduate students for careers at the intersection of justice systems and public sector leadership. The program is designed for those seeking roles in government agencies, private firms, and nonprofit institutions demanding expertise in both criminal justice and organizational management. By pursuing this combined pathway, students can earn both degrees in substantially less time than completing them separately.
Prospective students must satisfy the admission criteria for both programs independently. Applicants need to declare their intent to enroll in the dual-degree program during the application process. Those wishing to add the second degree after beginning one program must note this intention when applying for the second degree.
Individuals who have already earned either the MSCJ or MPA degree are ineligible for the combined program. Current MSCJ or MPA students must apply and gain admission no later than their penultimate semester before completing their initial degree requirements.
Dual-degree participants will not receive either diploma until fulfilling all requirements for both programs. Students opting out of the second degree must complete all original program requirements as standalone candidates.
The combined program comprises 60 total credit hours. Participants complete 13 core courses (39 credits) shared between both programs plus 7 elective courses (21 credits), with at least 4 electives selected from within the MSCJ and MPA curricula.
