Materials Science and Engineering is a vibrant discipline focused on creating, analyzing, and optimizing materials' composition, characteristics, and functionality. The academic curriculum provides focused study paths in metallurgy, ceramics, electronic components, nanomaterials, and biological materials.
Housed within FIU's College of Engineering and Computing, the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) delivers a comprehensive program that equips students with scientific fundamentals while fostering inventive problem-solving, professional ethics, cost-efficiency awareness, and environmental responsibility. Our mission is to maximize each student's capabilities, equip them for engineering excellence, and establish the foundational knowledge required for advanced studies across engineering, science, and business disciplines.
The MME Department provides undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS, PhD) degrees in Mechanical Engineering, along with graduate programs (MS, PhD) in Materials Science and Engineering. These engineering fields remain crucial for advancements in space technology, environmental systems, national security, energy solutions, transportation, and biomedical applications.
