The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts (BA/MA) in Economics is tailored for high-achieving undergraduates, offering a robust foundation in economic theory while enabling faster completion of the graduate degree. By leveraging overlapping coursework between the BA and MA programs, students can earn their master's degree more efficiently than through traditional pathways.
The BA in Economics mandates 9 upper-division elective courses. BA/MA participants may select electives that fulfill requirements for both degrees. Applicants must be economics majors who apply during their junior year with a minimum 3.25 GPA. Maintaining a 3.0 GPA is required to continue in the program, with MA grading standards applying to all graduate-level coursework. GRE examination is mandatory for BA/MA candidates.
Prospective students should download the application from http:/gradschool.fiu.edustudent-forms.shtml, secure the graduate director's signature, and submit the completed form with a $30 fee to the Graduate School Office. Three recommendation letters must be sent directly to the Economics Department's Graduate Director.
