The Marine Science and Oceanography concentration equips students with comprehensive knowledge of oceanographic science while developing the independent research capabilities required for specialized study. The IBMO program offers a blend of theoretical coursework and hands-on laboratory/field experiences, fostering interdisciplinary skills essential for tackling modern scientific challenges. IBMO professors bring expertise across varied marine environments - from urbanized coasts to pristine shorelines, major estuaries to both coastal and deep ocean zones - guiding student research in fields like water quality assessment, hydrological processes, coastal ecosystem dynamics, nutrient cycling, conservation biology, fisheries management, algal bloom impacts, coastal development, and advanced ocean observation technologies.
As part of the Integrative Biology degree program, the Marine Science concentration adheres to all departmental policies while maintaining additional specialized requirements for enrolled students.
