The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is dedicated to instructing students in the core principles of civil engineering science, analysis, design, and management, enabling them to pursue careers as professional engineers. It conducts fundamental and applied research to advance civil engineering knowledge, serves as a community resource for engineering advice, and supports the ongoing education of engineers and other interested parties. Additionally, the department has a specific commitment to making civil engineering education accessible to minorities and women.
The civil engineering Bachelor's degree program offers two majors: Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Both majors share a substantial portion of the curriculum, covering areas such as liberal studies, mathematics, basic sciences, general engineering principles, and civil engineering science and design. Students choose history/social science and humanities/fine arts electives to meet either the FSU liberal studies requirement or the FAMU general education requirement.
Students should have completed high school education.
