The Department of Biological Sciences has been a cornerstone of liberal arts education for more than two millennia. We aim to deliver scientific education within the liberal arts framework for all students while offering specialized training for biology majors. Our program ensures students gain thorough theoretical knowledge and hands-on scientific skills. Graduates will be equipped for advanced studies in graduate or professional programs, or for diverse career paths in biological, chemical, pharmaceutical, or marine science fields.
For non-science majors, fostering scientific literacy stands as the central goal of our mission. Through immersive scientific training and methodology, we ensure every Fairleigh Dickinson University graduate comprehends both scientific principles and investigative approaches.
Our Biology program caters to students pursuing graduate studies or preparing for medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, osteopathic, podiatric, veterinary, or chiropractic programs, as well as those not seeking advanced biology degrees. Students should review their target institution's requirements to address any additional prerequisites beyond our biology curriculum. A dedicated pre-professional advisor assists students in tailoring their academic path for their chosen career.
The Biology major provides versatile preparation for numerous careers and advanced degree programs. Working closely with an advisor, students can customize their coursework to align with specific objectives, whether pre-professional training or graduate school preparation.
