The Computer Science graduate program launched in 1975, initially offering a joint master's degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. Today, students pursue a dedicated M.S. in Computer Science. In Fall 2007, the department introduced a Ph.D. program in Computer Science and Informatics.
Emory's CSI Ph.D. program leverages existing strengths and recent expansions in data-centric computer science fields, with primary research focuses on Data Science and Biomedical Informatics.
This interdisciplinary program fosters collaboration with Emory's School of Medicine, Rollins School of Public Health, Woodruff Library, and the CDC.
Data Science research encompasses large-scale data systems, analytics, information retrieval, web search, NLP, privacy/security, and scientific computing. Biomedical Informatics research concentrates on optimizing biomedical data utilization for medical research and health-focused decision-making. BMI graduate research can directly enhance patient care while shaping clinical and biomedical research practices.
