Our faculty specializes in African-American thought, both classical and modern pragmatism, naturalist approaches, liberation philosophy, and transcendentalist traditions, with focused expertise on thinkers including Dewey, Emerson, James, Peirce, Rorty, and Santayana.
Scholars in these fields employ these intellectual traditions to explore fundamental questions intersecting with other disciplines such as aesthetics, moral philosophy, political theory, legal studies, philosophy of mind, and examinations of identity, while maintaining productive exchanges with other philosophical schools, especially continental thought. This interdisciplinary engagement fosters deep examinations of philosophical frameworks, methodological approaches, and the interplay between theory and practical application.
