The Department of Russian and East Asian Languages and Cultures (REALC) is a multidisciplinary academic unit focused on exploring languages and societies across the vast Eurasian region. Our program features four primary focus areas: Russia (the world's largest nation), China (the most populous country), Japan (ranked third in global economic size), and Korea (among the fastest-growing economies worldwide). Our curriculum connects Eastern and Western traditions through language instruction, cultural studies, and examinations of how regional literature interacts with arts, philosophy, religious traditions, and social sciences. Students can participate in dynamic study abroad options and internship placements both internationally and locally in Atlanta. The department enhances classroom learning with film screenings, visiting lectures, and cultural programming. REALC actively collaborates with the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) and East Asian Studies Program (EASP), while maintaining strong partnerships with various disciplines such as Linguistics, Comparative Literature, Art History, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Performing Arts, Musicology, History, and Religious Studies.
