The MESAS undergraduate program provides diverse courses covering the languages, cultures, histories, and archaeology of the Middle East and South Asia. Students can pursue a comprehensive major or minor in Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, an Arabic Studies major, or language minors in Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, and Persian. Additionally, the program offers a Mediterranean Archaeology minor and Tibetan Studies courses.
Most MESAS courses feature interdisciplinary approaches. The Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies major requires two years of language study, four multidisciplinary core courses, and electives from various Emory College departments. Our unique curriculum emphasizes broader regional and thematic studies (such as Middle Eastern Literatures, Comparative Sacred Texts, and Gender in South Asia) rather than focusing solely on specific languages or ethnic areas.
