The Ancient Mediterranean Studies program is a cross-departmental undergraduate major that explores the interconnected civilizations of the Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. With courses led by professors from seven different departments, the curriculum highlights the cultural exchanges across Mediterranean history, supported by primary resources from Emory's Michael C. Carlos Museum. The program organizes academic events like conferences and colloquia covering diverse subjects such as ancient medicine, mystery cults, and legal family structures in antiquity. Students are encouraged to gain international experience through archaeological fieldwork or study abroad programs in countries like Israel, Turkey, Greece, and Italy. Additionally, independent research opportunities are accessible via Emory's SIRE initiative.
