Founded in 1941, Eastern Michigan University's Occupational Therapy Program boasts a rich history of outstanding education, preparing skilled and compassionate professionals who serve communities across Michigan and the entire nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, job opportunities for occupational therapists are projected to increase by 17.5% between 2020 and 2030—significantly faster than most other professions. This growth stems from population expansion and rising needs among aging individuals, those with chronic conditions, and children/adults with autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, occupational therapy is expanding into new specialties like driver rehabilitation and fall prevention. Practitioners work in varied environments such as hospitals, schools, rehab centers, nursing homes, home healthcare services, and wellness programs.
