The Department of Women's and Gender Studies provides a comprehensive academic program featuring an interdisciplinary major, dual minor options, a Master's program, and a Graduate Certificate, equipping individuals of all genders with valuable knowledge and skills. Faculty members have developed courses spanning technology, political science, literary studies, philosophical inquiry, social sciences, historical analysis, and healthcare, highlighting women's pivotal roles across societal domains. At Eastern Michigan University, our department fosters a multidisciplinary, inclusive educational atmosphere. We approach diversity through an intersectional lens, encompassing gender identity, sexual orientation, racial background, socioeconomic status, physical ability, cultural heritage, spiritual beliefs, nationality, and additional aspects of personal identity. Our academic work explores how these identity markers interact in both personal experiences and broader social contexts. Through classroom discussions, research initiatives, and community events, we create spaces that embrace and value every individual. We actively encourage participation from students representing diverse backgrounds, believing this enriches global citizenship. Our department is dedicated to attracting and supporting underrepresented populations in both undergraduate and graduate education. We remain steadfast in confronting harassment, challenging stereotypes, correcting misinformation, and combating systemic inequities.
