Earning a Bachelor of Science in Journalism involves exploring news coverage through practical application, theoretical frameworks, ethical considerations, and societal influence. The curriculum balances time-honored journalistic techniques with cutting-edge digital tools. Students engage with coursework spanning media theory, composition, investigative reporting, content refinement, media history, press legislation, and professional standards, preparing them for careers as skilled reporters and editors. They develop core competencies—investigation, newsgathering, storytelling, and text refinement—while adapting to digital news distribution platforms. Beyond acquiring job-ready skills for both conventional and evolving media roles, students cultivate enduring analytical abilities for evaluating news content. The program actively promotes participation in The Echo, our student-run newspaper, or campus broadcast outlets to build hands-on experience and professional connections. Numerous journalism majors further enhance their training through internships with various media outlets, encompassing print and digital publications, TV networks, and online platforms.
